The girls’ basketball game was the night cap of a boy/girl doubleheader that featured the OC Eagles defeating the McLean County boys’ team for its first district win in front of a very large crowd.
The Ohio County High Lady Eagles ran out to a 22-8 lead after one quarter and never looked back in a 69-24 win last Friday night over the McLean County Lady Cougars in a game played at the OCHS gym. Friday’s decision pushed 18th-ranked Ohio County to 14-3 on the year, and 4-0 in 10th District games, while the Lady Cougars slipped to 3-11, and 0-4 in district.
Junior Ramsey Carpenter won two individual events in a four-team swim meet hosted by Ohio County High School last Thursday, January 11, at the Ohio County Family Wellness Center pool in Hartford. Carpenter’s wins came in the 200-meter and 500-meter freestyle races, providing most of OCHS’ points in the meet. Junior Ben Ashby was the only Eagle swimmer to place in the meet.
The Ohio County Eagles pushed their season record to 8-8 last week with home wins over Owensboro Catholic and McLean County. Coach Paul Decker’s charges visited Owensboro this Tuesday and were slated to host Daviess County this Friday at the OCHS gym. Next Tuesday, January 23, the Eagles play host to the Muhlenberg North Stars in a game that has heavy 10th District post-season implications. Ohio County is 1-3 in the district, which is seeded according to regular-season contests among district teams.
The newly formed Ohio County Little League has officially started its sign-up period for the 2007 baseball season following the election of its Board of Directors this past fall. Included on the Board of Directors are OCHS head baseball coach Ted Hill and OCHS head softball coach Heather Phelps as consultants for their respective sports. The Ohio County Little League is working with the OCHS coaches to form a feeder program for each sport.
Winning team concedes first place to OC wrestling team
The wrestling team competed against five other teams in a 12 team tournament at Apollo High School on Saturday January 9. The team took second place at the Apollo Team Duals. The wrestlers went 4 -1 for the day, winning matches against Apollo (48-25), South Spencer Indiana(45-24), Bossie Indiana (54-21), Bartlett Tennessee (B team), and dropping a loss to Bartlett’s A team (18-54) in the finals. On Tuesday January 9 the wrestlers traveled to Caldwell County to compete in a four team quad meet. The wrestlers racked up another three wins, defeating Caldwell County 61-13, Paducah Tilghman 70-6, and Calloway County by a score of 60 to 23.
Adams, Goff, Lady Eagles among state stat leaders
Ohio County High seniors Erin Adams and Lauren Goff are among the state’s leaders in a pair of offensive categories, according to last week’s report on “regular season statistical leaders” by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s official web-site. The two have helped lead Brad Johnson’s Lady Eagles to a 14-3 season record entering this week, a team that has been ranked as high as 18th in some statewide polls.
Leach repeats as HCAC “Player of the Week”
For the second time this season, former Ohio County High standout Julie Leach as been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s “Player of the Week”, for the week ending January 7. Julie, a 6-0 sophomore center at Transylvania University, is the daughter of Joe and Debbie Leach of Beaver Dam.
