The 2007 Ohio County High School varsity baseball team opens its 2007 season next Tuesday, March 27, playing host to the Muhlenberg North Stars in a 5 p.m. game at OCHS’ Bill Leach Field.

That game will see fifth-year head coach Ted Hill’s Eagles embark on a campaign which includes 15 regular-season contests and appearances in no less than seven tournaments — the Ray Chapman Wood Bat Tournament, the Marion County Invitational, the Franklin-Simpson Wildcat Classic, the Glasgow Invitational, the Cumberland Falls Classic, the Eagle Classic, and the Bullitt East Invitational. Hill’s 2006 team finished their season with a good 23-12 record, winning the inaugural Ray Chapman Wood Bat Tournament as well as the Rockcastle County Rockets “Battle at the Rock” Invitational while placing runner-up in the Franklin-Simpson Wildcat Classic. Ohio County lost to McLean County in the 10th District Tournament’s championship game and were beaten in the first round of the Third Region Tournament by eventual regional champion Daviess County.

Former OCHS Lady Eagles part of KWC softball team

A pair of former Ohio County High softball players played important roles for the Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team in wins last week. Senior pitcher Meredith McConnell picked up a mound win in last Tuesday’s Lady Panther win over Oakland City University while junior Brittany Watson scored the winning run against SIU-Edwardsville the next day. Those wins helped move Wesleyan to 12-8 on the year, and 1-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. McConnell struck out four Lady Oak batters while surrendering one walk in KWC’s 10-2 win in the second game of Tuesday’s doubleheader win at Oakland City. Wesleyan also won the first game by a 10-3 count.

The evening will be capped off by drawings for lots of door prizes, the announcement of winning bids in the silent auction, and the drawing for the night’s grand prize — a $500 Holland Black grill.
