Ohio County High’s Lady Eagle fast-pitch softball team improved to 3-11 Monday night with a 1-0 win over visiting Russellville(2-10). No line score or individual stats were available on the game at presstime this week. This Tuesday, May 1, Coach Heather Phelps’ team visited Muhlenberg South and will return to OCHS’ Jake Russell on Thursday to host Butler County. This Friday and Saturday, May 4-5, Ohio County will be participating in the seven-team Lady Raider Classic at Warren East High School in Bristow.
Ohio County High School senior soccer and basketball standout Erin Adams has been selected the winner of the Kentucky High School Athletic Director Association/Kentucky High School Coaches Association/Balfour Female Academic-Athlete of the Year award. The award, which is based on a nominee’s athletic and academic achievements as well as community and organizational involvement, is accompanied by a plaque, recognition at the KHSAA’s Lexington headquarters, and a $1,000 grant. Earlier this year, she was named an NSCAA/adidas High-School Scholar All-American in soccer.
The Ohio County Eagles whipped Bellevue 10-0 in six innings last Friday night at the Cumberland Falls Classic to up their season record to 11-5 on the year. Rain washed out Saturday’s final day games from the tournament at Corbin. Senior Bryan Taylor homered to pace the Ohio County offense while senior Ben Millay and sophomore Sam Kidd added doubles. Junior Matt Beddow threw five strong innings to take the mound win, striking out nine, with junior Justin Frizzell pitching the bottom of the sixth. Friday’s loss dropped Bellevue to 8-10 on the year.
The Ohio County High Lady Eagles fast-pitch softball team will be participating in the Lady Raider Classic tournament at Warren East High School in Bristow this Friday and Saturday, May 4-5. Coach Heather Phelps’ girls will be in the seven-team event’s “Pool” B along with host Warren East, Breckinridge County, and Christian County. The tournament’s other bracket includes Edmonson County, Louisville Mercy, and Warren Central.
The Ohio County High School boys’ and girls’ tennis teams had a busy end to last week, hosting Owensboro Catholic Thursday at their home courts then taking on Christian County and Owensboro in a pair of matches Saturday at Owensboro’s Moreland Park courts. The Moreland Park site will also host this week’s Don Moore Automotive Classic tournament featuring most of the area teams who will be competing in the Regional Tennis Meet May 14-17.
Ohio County High senior Collin St.Clair, top-seeded in boys’ singles, beat Grayson County’s Isaac Skaggs 6-0, 6-1 Monday afternoon in the first round of the 5th annual Don Moore/Sports Warehouse Classic at Owensboro’s Moreland Park. The event–a prelude to the upcoming regional meet–will be played through Thursday of this week.
The Ohio County High Lady Eagles’ fast-pitch softball team saw its season record slip to 2-11 last week with losses at Butler County and Edmonson County. This week, Coach Heather Phelps’ squad hosted Russellville on Monday, visited Muhlenberg South on Tuesday, and hosts Butler County on Thursday in a rematch of last Monday’s game at Morgantown.
