Senior John McEwen crafted a nifty four-hit shutout Monday night as the Ohio County baseball Eagles whipped Owensboro 8-0 on OCHS’ Senior Night. McEwen, along with fellow seniors Michael Bennett, Adam Daugherty, Ben Millay, and Bryan Taylor, were making their final home appearances at Bill Leach Field. After games at Daviess County on Tuesday and Breckinridge County on Thursday, the Eagles enter next week’s 10th District Tournament as the top-seeded team for the second year in a row.

This week–the final week of regular-season play–saw coach Heather Phelps’ squad host Owensboro Monday night in OCHS’ annual Senior Night game. Ohio County High School seniors Josh Clemons and Chase Melton signed national letters-of-intent on April 27 to play college basketball next year–Clemons with Motlow State Community College in Tullahoma, Tennessee and Melton with Brescia University in Owensboro. Clemons–a 6-10, 240-pound forward–is a gifted offensive player with a nice shooting touch all the way out to three-point range. After a stellar junior season in 2004-’05 in which he helped lead then-head coach Kyle Estes’ Eagles to a Third Region championship and a berth in the 2005 Sweet Sixteen State Tournament, Clemons was considered one of the top prospects in the state.
