Eagle senior Bryan Taylor hammers a Philip Neal pitch over the centerfield fence for a two run walk-off home run after trailing Muhlenberg North 2-3 going into the final inning of play. Ohio County will be playing for the 10th District championship Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at McLean County High School and will play in the 3rd Region Tournament next week.
OC wins on Taylor walk-off home run
Senior Bryan Taylor hit a dramatic walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning Monday night to lift Ohio County to a 4-3 over Muhlenberg North in first round action in the 10th District Baseball Tournament at McLean County High School. Taylor’s blast also plated senior Ben Millay who had walked with one out in the seventh, smashing the hopes of the upstart Stars who entered the tournament as a fourth seed.
The Ohio County High Lady Eagles fast-pitch softball team went down swinging Monday night, losing a tough 3-2 decision to top-seeded Muhlenberg North in the first round of the 10th District Softball Tournament, hosted by Ohio County High School. Monday’s loss closes the book on the Lady Eagles’ season at 4-19 while North advanced to the district finals with a 17-18-1 worksheet.
Ohio County High’s Collin St.Clair rolled to his third consecutive Third Region boys’ tennis singles title last Thursday, beating Daviess County sophomore Bobby Whitmer 6-2 and 6-1 in the finals played at Owensboro’s Moreland Park courts. His victory earns a berth in this week’s 2007 5th/3rd Bank/KHSAA State Tennis Meet, to be played at the Boone/Downing Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Kentucky in Lexington this Thursday through Saturday, May 24-26.
The Ohio County High baseball Eagles finished their 2007 regular-season schedule last week with a loss and win, completing a strong 20-7 worksheet. Coach Ted Hill’s squad carried that mark into this week’s 10th District Tournament at McLean County High School, beating Muhlenberg North 4-3 Monday night to earn a berth in Wednesday’s district championship against McLean County.
Hartford’s Delbert Gray continued his impressive showings in area road races, winning the 70-and-over males title in the International Bar-B-Q Festival 5K Run/Walk in Owensboro. Gray covered the 3.1-mile course in 35 minutes and 43 seconds. Matt Rowe was the race’s overall winner at 16:55 while Rebekah Christman took the women’s division at 19:17.
