GLVC All-Academic team features 3 OC athletes
Sixty-two Kentucky Wesleyan College student-athletes were named to the 2007 Great Lakes Valley Conference All-Academic Team. This marks the most honorees in KWC athletic history for one season. Included in selections were three former Ohio County High School graduates Bridget Gillim, Amanda Critchelow and Kristen Chinn.
Jill Asberry, a two-time all-district and all-region midfielder at Ohio County High School in Hartford, Ky., signed a national letter-of-intent to continue her education and soccer career at Kentucky Wesleyan College, as announced by Panther Head Coach Larry Simpson. Asberry, a four-year starter for the Eagles, was instrumental in the continued success of the Ohio County soccer program.
Hartford’s Delbert Gray recorded a time of 35 minutes, 17 seconds to place first in the 70-and-over men’s division of last Saturday’s Kroger 5K Run/Walk in Owensboro. The race was hosted by Owensboro’s Family YMCA as a part of the Green River Region Senior Games. Gray’s timing placed him 96th overall in a field of 132 entrants competing.
Ohio County High junior Lars King continued his consistent play in the Greater Owensboro Junior Golf Series last week, firing a two-over-par round of 73 to finish second in the 16-18 boys championship flight of last Friday’s event at the Central City Country Club. Kyle Hatfield won the overall tourney title with a blistering two-under round of 69.
OCHS will honor members of its 2007 baseball program next Saturday, June 23, with an awards banquet. Guests of honor will be the 2007 Eagles varsity squad which finished its season at 24-8, winning a 10th District championship enroute to a berth in the Third Region championship. Also on hand will be the ‘07 junior varsity and freshman squads. Eagle head coach Ted Hill is quoted as saying, “Everyone is invited and a good time will be had by all.” The banquet is slated to begin at 6 p.m. at OCHS’ Eagle Rock Cafe.
Daugherty homers in Bomber loss
Adam Daugherty, a member of Ohio County High’s 2007 baseball Eagles, slammed a home run last Saturday night in the Owensboro Bombers’ 12-6 loss at Campbellsville. Daugherty, who will be a scholarship player next year at Owensboro’s Brescia University, is in his first year with the Bombers, Owensboro’s Post 9 American Legion baseball team.
OCHS honors Eagle soccer team with banquet
Ohio County High School honored its inaugural 2006 boys’ soccer team with a banquet at the school. Coach Isaac Obermann guided the first-year Eagles to a competitive 3-11-2 record.
