Judge hears open record case against Industtrial Foundation
In just one year, Peggy Phelps went through a divorce, lost her job and suffered serious foot injuries from a car accident. “I had nowhere to go and nothing to do,” Phelps said. “After I had my wreck, it was a few months before I could walk again.” Judge hears open record case against Industrial Foundation After three years of delays, the Ohio County Citizens for a Better Environment, led by Vickie Henderson, was in court last Thursday to present its open record case against the Ohio County Industrial Foundation. The one-day bench trial was presided over by Circuit Court Judge Ronnie Dortch who listened to testimony primarily from Hartford lawyer Frank Martin, a founding member of the Industrial Foundation and its current legal advisor.
2003 county fair in full swing
The 2003 renewal of the Great Ohio County Fair opened with exhibit registrations on Monday of this week and will continue through Saturday night. The event, sponsored by the Ohio County Fair Association, offers something for almost every member of the family. Tuesday’s schedule featured a pet show, a mule show, and country music.
State delivers $234,000 for Rosine Project
Easy come, easy go. That’s what will happen to the $234,000 in coal severance money the county received for the Rosine Project last week. “That money is going to the businesses, banks and other people we already owe,” said Campbell Mercer, director of the Bill Monroe Foundation. “We turned in $302,000 in receipts. We’re not expecting it all but we’re going to show everything we’ve spent.”
364 countians listed with unclaimed property by state
State Treasurer Jonathan Miller listed 364 Ohio Countians with unclaimed property —payroll checks, bank accounts, royalties, utility deposits, interest, stock certificates and life insurance proceeds — tallying $64,566.88. Beaver Dam hosting parade for military men and women
The City of Beaver Dam will be hosting a parade on July 3 for military men
and women who are returning or have returned from Iraq. Families wanting to
