OC senior Bryan Taylor hits a line drive during the Eagles’ 2007 Third Region opening round game with the Owensboro Red Devils on May 21 at Muhlenberg South High School. This week Taylor was named All-State honorable mention and participated in the East vs. West All-Star games last Sunday in Lexington. Taylor batted .544 with seven home runs and 46 RBIs in 32 games in his final season of play for OCHS.

OC’s Taylor named to All-Star, All-State teams

Ohio County High’s Bryan Taylor was a member of the West Senior All-Stars competing in the 2007 KHSBCA East/West All-Star Games last Sunday, June 24, in Lexington. Bryan–the son of Steve and Lesa Taylor of Centertown–was also listed among Honorable Mentions on the Kentucky All-State Baseball Team, as announced last week.


Daugherty inks pact with Brescia

Ohio County High School’s Adam Daugherty signed a collegiate grant-in-aid last week to play baseball for Brescia University in Owensboro. Adam, a power-hitting speedster, helped lead Coach Ted Hill’s Eagles to a 24-8 record in 2007, winning a 10th District championship enroute as well as finishing runner-up in the Third Region. Adam, the son of Greg and Patricia Daugherty of Horse Branch, will join former Eagle teammate Robert Givens on coach Jeff Falkner’s Brescia Bearcat squad. Falkner is entering his second season as head coach of the Bearcats, an NAIA team which competes in the Kentucky Interscholastic Athletic Conference.


Mills new golf coach at OCHS

Ohio County High School recently hired its fifth head golf coach in the past eight years by selecting physical education teacher Holly Mills to take over for 2006 coach Kevin Autry. Mills, a graduate of Muhlenberg North High School and Kentucky Wesleyan College, was hired to teach Physical Education at OCHS last January after her graduation from Kentucky Wesleyan.


Overstreet, King, Risinger winners in junior golf series

Jordan Overstreet and Tyler Risinger represented Ohio County well in a pair of recent events on the Greater Owensboro Junior Golf Series, with Overstreet taking a first in his age division and Risinger a second. Both Jordan, a sophomore-to-be at Ohio County High School, and Tyler, a seventh grader at Ohio County Middle School, are expected to be contributors to the OCHS boys’ team.


OCHS honors baseball players with banquet

Ohio County High School honored its 2007 baseball Eagles with a banquet and awards ceremony last Saturday night at the school’s Eagle Rock Cafe. A nice crowd was on hand on the rainy evening to take part in the potluck meal and witness the post-meal ceremonies.


OCHS hosts passing tourney, lineman challenge June 16

The Ohio County High football Eagles hosted their annual Passing Tournament and Big Nasties Challenge on Saturday, June 16. The passing tournament featured five varsity and three junior varsity squads while the “Big Nasties” challenge for linemen included seven teams representing four schools. According to Eagle head coach Dan Crume, Hancock County High School emerged as the passing tournament champions for the fourth year in a row.
