Overstreet, McDaniel win junior golf titles
Despite not winning their divisions of Monday’s final Greater Owensboro Junior Golf Series tour event at The Summit, Ohio County golfers Jordan Overstreet and Dawson McDaniel won overall tour championships. Both Jordan(boys’ 13-15 championship) and Dawson(boys’ 8-and-under) had amassed enough points in their previous tour events to bring home the tour’s top trophies in their divisions. A total of seven players from Ohio County participated in the series this summer, including Isaac Brown, Kellen Fleener, Lars King, Jess Stevens, and Tyler Risinger.
Ohio County Rage Soccer Camp was conducted over a four day period this past week. Many campers attended wanting to take advantage of an opportunity to train during the high school dead period. This summer’s camp emphasized Fundamentals, individual skill development, and shooting technique improvement. This year’s camp was open to both boys and girls wanting to prepare for JV and Varsity soccer at the high school level. The age groups were from 10 - 18 years old, and individual groups were organized for each age division. Ohio County Rage Coordinator and former OCHS Lady Eagle varsity soccer coach, Dwayne “Doc” DeWitt once again hosted and conducted this year’s soccer camp.
Ohio County’s Lars King recorded a one-under-par round of 70 last Thursday at Bowling Green’s Crosswinds Golf Course to win the boys’ championship division of a Musselman-Dunne Junior Golf Tour event. Lars–the son of Mark and Julie King of Hartford–beat Georgetown’s Chase Cadle and Campbellsville’s Dillon Mays each by two strokes to take the title.
Former Ohio County High baseball standout Adam Daugherty picked up a double and two singles last Saturday for the Post 9 Bombers, but it wasn’t enough as Owensboro’s American Legion squad fell to host Shelbyville 9-5. Sunday at Owensboro’s Shifley Park, the Bombers pulled out a 9-7 win over visiting Madisonville to push their season record to 7-6.
