Lady Eagles pound Central 80-61 in opener
The Ohio County High Lady Eagles opened their 2006-’07 basketball season Monday night with a hard-fought 80-61 win over Warren Central in a game played at Bowling Green. Senior forward Erin Adams scored a game-high 30 points to pace the winners on offense while sophomore guard Mariah Robinson added 15 and junior reserve Courtney Albin 11. The two teams battled to four early ties before a 7-0 run put Ohio County up 14-7 midway in the first period. Central closed to within 14-12 before a pair of Adams baskets pushed the Lady Eagles on top 18-12 at the first break. Adams had nine points in the quarter while Albin came off the bench to net five.
‘White out’ night Friday at OCHS doubleheader
This Friday night’s girl-boy varsity basketball doubleheader at Ohio County High School has been designated “White Out Night” with all Lady Eagle and Eagle fans encouraged to wear white. The OCHS girls and boys will be hosting Barren County with the girls’ game at 6 p.m. and the boys’ at approximately 8 p.m. Fans are also encouraged to get their new “White Out” T-shirts to wear to home games. The shirts are on sale by the school’s pep club members for $8.
Junior running back Will Danks and sophomore linebacker Austin Patton were among the first-team selections on the Messenger-Inquirer’s 2006 All-Area Football Team, according to results released last week. Danks made the honor squad at his position while Patton–also a second-team pick at linebacker–was named the area’s “Newcomer of the Year.” Senior linebacker Shaun Lynch and junior defensive back Justin Frizzell were All-Area second-team members. The All-Area team is picked annually from nominations by the area’s nine head football coaches, with final selections made by the sportswriting staff of the Owensboro daily newspaper.
Three runners with Ohio County ties were among the field of nearly 90 runners competing in the 34th annual Turkey Run held on Sunday, November 19, in Owensboro. Drew Hawkins was the overall winner, covering the 5-mile course in 27 minutes and 36 seconds, while Katelyn Jones topped all female competitors in 33:08.
