OC senior Josh Clemons puts up two of his six points during the first half of the Eagles opening game loss to the Greenwood Gators Tuesday night. The Eagles rebounded from the loss with a double-overtime victory over the Barren County Trojans Friday night. Clemons finished that game with 33 points and 11 rebounds.
Eagles fall in opener, down Barren in 2 OTs
The Ohio County Eagles finished the first week of the 2006-’07 season with a 1-1 record, losing Tuesday night to the Greenwood High Gators from Bowling Green before pulling out a wild 74-71 win in double overtime Friday night over Barren County. Both games were played at the OCHS gym. Coach Paul Decker’s team tipped off a busy week this week Tuesday night at Muhlenberg North and returns home on Friday to play host to Whitesville Trinity’s Raiders. Then, on Saturday, Ohio County journeys to Madisonville-North Hopkins High School to take on Hopkins County Central in the Messenger Tip-Off Classic. After that game, the Eagles are off until Friday, December 15, when they visit McLean County.
Girls’ soccer team wins national academic award
The 2005-2006 Ohio County High School Lady Eagle soccer team was one of only 217 girls’ squads in the United States winning the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award, in a recent announcement. To qualify for the award, a team must have a minimum grade-point-average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player’s GPA, then dividing by the number of players. The Lady Eagle squad’s team GPA was an outstanding 3.52 last year.
Lady Eagles soccer banquet Sunday
Ohio County High School will honor its 2006 Lady Eagle soccer team with a banquet and awards ceremony this Sunday, December 10. The meal–featuring soup and chili–will begin at 3 p.m. at OCHS’ Eagle Rock Cafe, with the awards program to follow. Guests of honor will be Coach Chuck Adams’ varsity squad which finished with a 16-3-1 record, winning–in only fourth year for the school’s varsity program–second consecutive district and regional titles, and the school’s first-ever sub-section and sectional titles resulting in a trip to the state semifinals. The public is invited to attend.
Lady Eagles whip Barren County 61-43
The Ohio County High Lady Eagles rode their pressure defense to a big second half in beating visiting Barren County 61-43 last Friday night at the OCHS gym. Friday’s win pushed Coach Brad Johnson’s squad to 2-0 on the year while the Trojanettes–one of the Fourth Region’s elite teams–slipped to 1-1. Senior forward Erin Adams got Ohio County going offensively in the first period, laying in 11 points as the Lady Eagles jumped out to a 16-10 lead. Barren County battled back in the next eight minutes, using balanced scoring to trim the deficit back to 29-25 at halftime.
