OC wrestler Adam Lynch attempts to pin Moore High School’s Nick Vincent during the first round of consolation matches at the KHSAA State Wrestling Championships this past weekend. Lynch won the match 6-0 before being eliminated from competition in a close 7-3 decision to Justin Miley of Scott High School.
Despite losing senior heavyweight Adam Burdin in a premeet mishap, the Ohio County High School wrestling team went on to make place 30th overall at last weekend’s 2007 KHSAA State Wrestling Tournament in Frankfort. Coach David Miller’s grapplers racked up 36 points in the meet to finish in a tie for 30th with North Oldham High School. First Region champion Union County, who edged the Eagles for the regional team title, went on to take the state crown with 148 points.
With a loss last Tuesday at Warren Central and a win Friday at Hancock County, the Ohio County Eagles ran their record to 13-12 entering the final week of regular-season play. Coach Paul Decker’s boys were to be featured in the first game of a boy-girl varsity doubleheader this Tuesday night hosting Grayson County then finish their regular season with a game Friday night at Breckinridge County. Tuesday’s game was also Senior Night at Ohio County High with five Eagle seniors–Josh Clemons, Alex Embry, B.J. Garner, Chase Melton, and Collin St.Clair–playing their final home game.
The Ohio County High Lady Eagles won the “coin flip” last Sunday to claim the top seed in the 2007 Girls’ 10th District Basketball Tournament which tips off next Tuesday night, February 27, at Muhlenberg South High School in Greenville. Coach Brad Johnson’s Lady Eagles–entering the final week of regular-season play at 18-7–tied Muhlenberg North with identical 5-1 records against district opponents, with wins over each other being their only district losses.
The Ohio County Eagles will face the Muhlenberg South Suns in the 2007 Boys’ 10th District Basketball Tournament next Wednesday night, February 28, at Muhlenberg North High School in Greenville. Tipoff for the game will be at 7 p.m. The Eagles–13-12 entering this week–and the Suns(13-13) finished tied for second in the district on the basis of regular-season games, each going 3-3 against district foes and splitting their head-to-head contests as well.
The Scott County Lady Cardinals lived up to the number two state ranking last Friday night, beating visiting Ohio County by a score of 95-67. Friday’s win pushed Scott County to 22-3 on the year while the Lady Eagles slipped to 18-7. The Ohio County girls complete their regular-season games this week with a Tuesday home contest hosting Grayson County and a Thursday night date at Breckinridge County. Tuesday’s game was designated Senior Night as six Lady Eagles—Erin Adams, Lindsey Embry, Lauren Goff, Amy Hamilton, Keshia Hunt, and Janna Whittaker—will be making the final home appearances. Coach Brad Johnson’s squad will need to win both to reach the coveted 20-win plateau for the year. The Lady Eagles are then slated to face McLean County next Tuesday, February 27, in first-round action in the Girls’ 10th District Tournament at Muhlenberg North High School.
