Shirley Ann Humphrey
Shirley Ann Humphrey, 61, of Beaver Dam died Monday, April 29, 2002, at
her home.
The Whitesville native retired from Beaver Dam Cafe as a steam table cook
and was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Beaver Dam.
Survivors include her husband, Louis "Red" Humphrey; three sons,
Darell Phelps of Owensboro and Carroll Phelps and Thomas Phelps; a daughter,
Darlene Brown of Terre Haute, Indiana; three stepsons, Bruce Humphrey of
Arkansas, Jerry Phelps of Michigan and Paul Humphrey of Turkey; four stepdaughters,
Bonnie Tobalske of Virginia, Berta Seymour of Ohio and Ruthie Kistler and
Ginger Seay, both of California; 29 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren;
a brother, Robert Clark of Illinois; and two sisters, Frances Hall of Owensboro
and Mary McDaniel of Whitesville.
Services were Friday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial
was private.
Drexel Phillips
Drexel Phillips, 76, of Reynolds Station died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at
Owensboro Mercy Health System.
The Deanefield native owned Phillips Funeral Home from 1954 to 1976 and
was deacon of Fordsville Baptist Church. He was a charter member of Fordsville
Lions Club, a former member of Ohio County School Board and a veteran of
World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Jean "Honey" Phillips;
two sons, Steve Phillips and daughter-in-law, Phyllis of Kalamazoo, Michigan
and Stuart Phillips and daughter-in-law, Robin of Ann Arbor, Michigan; three
grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nephews and nieces.
Services were Saturday at Fordsville Baptist Church with burial in Fordsville
Cemetery. Geary Funeral Home in Fordsville was in charge of arrangements.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Fordsville Baptist
Church Youth Program or Fordsville Historical Society.
Marion Carson Maples
Marion Carson Maples of Fairport, New York. died Thursday, May 2, 2002.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife,
Alvina.
Survivors include a son, Dean (Carmen), three grandchildren, Brittany, James
(Janine) and Donald (Marianne) Peterson; three great-grandchildren, Austin,
Jake and Liam; two brothers, L.J. (Thelma) Maples and Hubbard Maples; two
sisters, Opal Faye Smith and Lorahe (Odessis) Murphy; and several nieces
and nephews.
Services were Saturday at White Haven Memorial Park’s Creations Chapel.
Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home, Fairport was in charge of arrangements.

Robert Franklin Hesher
Robert Franklin Hesher, 54, of Whitesville died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at
Owensboro Mercy Health System.
The Portland, Indiana native retired from Emmick Oil Co. and was a member
of Karns Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Mary Boehman Hesher; a son, Rob
Hesher of Reynolds Station; three daughters, Janie Payne of Utica, Tabitha
Conder of Whitesville and Renee Hesher of Glasgow; five grandchildren; three
brothers, Harold Hesher, Donnie Hesher and Tom Hesher, all of Bluffton,
Indiana; and three sisters, Anita Isch of Dublin, Indiana, Janie Huffman
of Montpelier, Indiana and Carol Sturgeon of Bluffton.
Services were Saturday at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville with burial
in Karns Grove Cemetery in Daviess County. Expressions of sympathy may take
the form of donations to Robert Franklin Hesher Memorial Fund.
Billy Jean Taylor
Billy Jean Taylor, 78, of Las Vegas, Nevada died there Sunday, May 5, 2002.
The Centertown native was a homemaker and member of Nellis Air Force Base
Golf Association.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Cecil P. Taylor Jr.; a son, Cecil
P. Taylor III of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two daughters, Benny Jan Scheib
of Las Vegas and Bobby Jo McCall of Fairplay, Colorado; two grandchildren;
and a sister, Betsy Hines of Hartford.
Memorial services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at Bunkers Chapel in Las Vegas.
Interment will be private.
Gordon Taylor Fulkerson
Gordon Taylor Fulkerson, 89, of Rockport died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at
Maple Manor Health Care in Greenville.
The Ohio County native retired as a coal miner and was a Baptist. He was
a Kentucky Colonel and a former cook at Fort Knox. His wife, Alice Irene
Kirby Fulkerson, died in 1951.
Survivors include two sons, William Gordon Fulkerson and Darrell Eugene
Fulkerson, both of Central City; four daughters, Mae McIntire of Evansville,
Christine Fulkerson Embrey of Mount Vernon, Indiana, Brenda Zigler of New
Castle, Indiana and Shirley Lee Fulkerson of Central City; 24 grandchildren;
32 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Services were Saturday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with burial
in Nelson Creek Cemetery in Central City.
Edward T.
"Uncle Bud" Poole
Edward T. "Uncle Bud" Poole, 73, of Utica died Saturday, May 4,
2002, at Riverside Manor Healthcare Center in Calhoun.
The McLean County native retired from L&N Railroad as a switchman after
34 1/2 years. He was a Shriner and member of Utica Masonic Lodge No. 742,
Hadi Temple in Evansville, Scottish Rite and United Transportation Local
No. 904.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Dorothy C. Poole; two daughters,
Sandy Redfern of Calhoun and Linda Taylor of Livermore; six grandchildren;
four great-grandchildren; a brother, Omer J. Poole of Dearborn Heights,
Michigan; and four sisters, Nellie Wilkerson of Island, Grace Bishop of
Centertown, Evelyn Smith of Owensboro and Glenna Tucker of Greenville.
Services were Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro with burial in
Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of

Tommy Lee
Tommy Lee, 61, of Utica died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at his home.
The Grayson County native retired as a plumber, was a member of Pipefitters
Union Local 633 and attended Good Shepherd Church. He was former master
of Masonic Lodge 742, a member of Rizpah Temple and Ohio County Shrine Club
and enjoyed horses and horse racing.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Joyce Aldridge Lee; a son, Jamie
Lee of Utica; two grandchildren; his mother, Flora Swift Lee of Owensboro;
three brothers, Lowell Lee and Bobby Lee, both of Utica, and Foster Lee
of Owensboro; two sisters, Betty Lee Crabtree and Diane Pendley, both of
Owensboro; and several nephews and nieces.
Services were Wednesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro
with burial in Nickel Ridge Cemetery in Daviess County. Expressions of sympathy

Coleman B. Maddox Sr.
Coleman B. Maddox Sr., 85, of Danville, Virginia, formerly of Charlottesville,
died Friday, May 3, 2002.
The Ohio County native was born May 6, 1916, the son of the late Caperton
C. and Maude E. Barnard Maddox. He served in the Army 98th Evacuation Hospital
and Medical Corp assistant Lieutenant; attended Western Kentucky University
and received a Bachelor degree in Engineering from U. Va. He was a member
of Widows Sons Lodge #60.
He was also a past master of Charlottesville Lodge #55 AF & AM, US Coast
Guard Auxiliary, Albemarle County Historical Society, a lifetime member
of UVa Alumni, Boy Scout Committee member for University Baptist Church
Troop #89, DeMolay advisor for Thomas Jefferson Chapter, 32nd Degree Mason,
and member of ACCA Temple, Richmond.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Coulter Maddox; two sons, John Coulter
Maddox of Poquoson, Virginia and Coleman Barnard Maddox, Jr. of Danville,
Virginia; two brothers, Mitchell P. Maddox of Bushnell, Florida and James
D. Maddox of Frankfort, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Andrew, Karen and
Stephen.
Services were Wednesday at Hill & Wood Funeral Home with burial in Oakwood
Cemetery with Masonic Rites. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of

Anna Laura Phillips Addington
Anna Laura Phillips Addington, 80, of Owensboro died Thursday, May 2, 2002,
at Owensboro Mercy Health System.
The Centertown native had worked at G.E. in Owensboro, was a Sunday school
teacher for many years and was a charter member of Pleasant Memorial Baptist
Church in Owensboro. She enjoyed traveling and reading and loved visits
from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by her husband, Conway Addington in 1989.
Survivors include a son, Phillip Addington of Kingston, Tennessee; a daughter,
Leta Addington Porter of Owensboro; a brother, Clarence "Doc"
Phillips; a sister, Mattie Belle Boyd of Hartford; four grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were Sunday at Duke-Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Centertown with
burial in Walton Creek Cemetery near Centertown.
Gertrude Ford Blacklock
Gertrude Ford Blacklock, 86, of Maceo died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at her
home.
The Owensboro native retired from General Electric Co. and was a member
of Breckenridge Street United Methodist Church. Her husband, J.C. Blacklock,
died January 21, 1995.
Survivors include a son, David Michael Blacklock of Owensboro; two daughters,
Shirley Hargan of Utica and Sherri Blacklock Sumner of Owensboro; four grandchildren;
and five great-grandchildren.
Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in
Owensboro. Burial will be in Red Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Daviess
County. Visitation is from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday
at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations

Delmon Faught
Delmon Faught, 73, of Owensboro died Monday, May 6, 2002, at Owensboro Mercy
Health System.
The Ohio County native retired as a construction worker after 25 years,
worked at Bond Bros. Railroad Tie Co. for 10 years and was a member of Local
193 and The Peoples Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mary Elizabeth Payne Faught; a sister,
Margaret Sue Dennison of Owensboro; and two nephews and five nieces.
Services are at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro.
Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 3:30 to
7 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
