Wilford Glenn Manley
Wilford Glenn Manley, 77, of Cromwell died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at 
Beaver Dam Health Care Manor.
He retired from Whirlpool in Evansville after 35 years and was a deacon 
and member at New Zion Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Moore Manley; two daughters, 
Carolyn Gilstrap and Loretta McKinley; six brothers, Alfred Manley, Donald 
Manley, Joseph Manley, Dempsey Manley, Leon Manley, and Gerald Manley; 
and two sisters, Hazel Manley and Marilyn Elkins.
Memorial services will be a later date. Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in 
Beaver Dam is in charge of arrangements.

Charles Everett McDaniel
Charles Everett McDaniel, 75, of Hartford died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, 
at his home.
He retired from Ohio County Voactional School in maintenance and was a 
member of Rosine Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Monroe McDaniel; a son, Billy 
McDaniel; two daughters, Debbie McDaniel and Karen Wise; two brothers, 
Paul Ray McDaniel and Karen Wise; two brothers, Paul Ray McDaniel and 
Ed McDaniel; and six sisters, Corine Hardin, Betty Jean Culver, Lorine 
Clark, Katherine Hohimer, Mary Louise Pilkington and Mandy May 
Pilkington.
Services were Friday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, 
with burial in Rosine Cemetery.

Charlotte Pirtle Breeden
Charlotte Pirtle Breeden, 93, Of Sun Sites, Pearce, AZ, died from heart 
complications in Tucson on September 27, 2003.
She was born September 29, 1909 to the late William Wayne and Etta 
McCormick Pirtle of No Creek community. She was a member of the Harford 
Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Ray 
Breeden, on February 5, 1978, and by her sisters, Ann Barrass Phillips 
and Lydia Haynes.
Upon graduation from Hartford High School. Class of 1929, Mrs. Breeden 
worked in Chicago for businesses that included Western Union. The 
Breedens returned to Ohio County in the 1960's, and owned and operated 
Flowerland Florist in Beaver Dam. Mrs. Breeden was an accomplished 
artist and business woman. She had lived in Pearce for the past 30 
years.
She is survived locally by cousins, Ben McCormick and Mary Ambrose and 
by her sisters, Helen Taylor of Jackson, Tennessee, and Ruth Fox of St. 
Petersburg, Florida; and a nephew, Edward Wayne Barrass.
Memorial services were held in Arizona. South Lawn in Tucson was in 
charge of arrangements.

Lonnie Ray Gidcumb
Lonnie Ray Gibcumb, 48, of Morgantown, died Monday, October 27, 2003, 
at his residence.
He was a Butler County native. He was preceded in death by his father, 
Roy Gidcumb.Survivors include his mother, Eula Kemp Gidcumb of Morgantown; a 
daughter, Crystal Carson of Bowling Green; two sons, Jeremy Gidcumb of 
Bowling Green and Jason Gidcumb of Indiana; a grandson; two brothers, 
Lenis Gidcumb and Ellis Gidcumb, both of Morgantown; seven sisters, 
Marlene Tyree Davis of Crossroads, Hazel Miller of Beaver Dam, Ova 
Coots of Aberdeen, Edna Minton and Pearl Kitchens, both of Morgantown, Cassie 
McKinney and Patty Leach, both of Bowling Green; and several nieces and 
nephews.
Services were Thursday at Sandy Creek Baptist Church with burial in 
Sandy Creek Cemetery. Jones Funeral Home Chapel was in charge of 
arrangements.

Hurshel D. Johnson
Hurshel D. Johnson, 87, of Browder, Kentucky, died Thursday, October 
30, 2003, in Greenville.
The Butler County native was a member of Richardson's Chapel General 
Baptist Church and was a farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, 
Kattie Ray Johnson, a son, Bobby Johnson, daughters, Anna Yvonney Lewis 
and Wanda June Johnson; and a companion, Virginia Poole.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Johnson of Lewisburg, Kentucky; a 
daughter, Betty Joyce Greathouse of Beaver Dam; a stepson, Mitch Poole 
of Madisonville; three stepdaughters, April Poole of Browder, Brinda 
Bishop of Baltimore, Maryland and Connie Hurley of Owensboro; 16 
grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Kathryn Morris of 
Livermore.
Services were Saturday at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with burial in 
Oak Hill Cemetery in Livermore.

Warren G. Gray
Warren G. Gray, 80, of Hartford, died Thursday, October 30, 2003, at 
his home.
The Ohio County native retired from Commonwealth Aluminum as an 
overhead crane operator and was a farmer. He was a member of Concord Baptist 
Church, Dundee Masonic Lodge F&AM 733 and USWA Steelworkers Union Local 
7325 in Lewisport. He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II 
and received Soldiers Medal PP4. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and 
raising cattle. He was preceded in death by one brother, Olen Gray, in 1978; 
and two sisters, Zella Baxley in 1999 and Commie Powers in 2002.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Wilda Jewell Chapman Gray of 
Hartford; three sons, Garren Lynn Gray of Hartford, Phillip Gray of 
Philpot and Danny Warren Gray of Utica; a daughter, Melinda Jane Bowman 
of Crestwood; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three 
sisters, Anna Jones of Winter Park, Florida, Ella Jean Wagstaff of Beaver Dam 
and Betty Jo Ortiz of Winter Park; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were Sunday at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford with 
burial in Clear Run Cemetery in Ohio County. Expressions of sympathy

Ruby Henry Cates
Ruby Henry Cates, 69, of Hartford, died Wednesday, October 29, 2003, at 
Owensboro Medical Health System.
He retired from Peabody Coal Co. after 32 years and was a Navy veteran 
of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley R. Stevens Cates; a son, Richard L. 
Cates; a daughter, Sandra Chinn; and four sisters, Naomi Knox, Rosetta 
Crask, Celesta Lou Krietzer and Sharon Harris.
Services were Saturday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home in Madisonville 
with burial in Union Cemetery near Nebo with military graveside 
services conducted by VFW Post 5480, American Legion Post 6 and American Legion 
Ladies Auxiliary Post 2.

Eugene "Monkey" Hall
Eugene "Monkey" Hall, 61, of Hartford, died Sunday, November 2, 2003, 
at Owensboro Medical Health System.He was a retired coal miner.
Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Clark Hall; three sons, Rodney 
Hall, Marty Hall and Dakota Hall; a daughter, Kim Hall Easterling; five 
brothers, Lawrence Lecil Hall, Donald Lee Hall, David Hall, Darrell 
Hall and Bravil Hall; and five sisters, Irene Frady, Lou Sisk, Lois Read, 
Dicie Alsman and Shirley Sisk.
Services were Tuesday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam 
with burial in Calvary Hill Cemetery in Beaver Dam.

Arthur Joe Parks
Arthur Joe Parks, 62, of Owensboro, died Saturday, November 1, 2003, at 
his home.The Hartford native was employed by the U.S. Department of Labor with 
the Mine Safety Health Administration as a conference litigation 
officer. He was a Methodist, a former member of the Hartford City 
Council and past president of Beaver Dam Alumni Association. He was an 
Army veteran of the Vietnam War and the U.S. Army Reserve. He enjoyed 
riding his bike, playing trivia and playing with his grandson.
Survivors include his daughter, Dr. Jodi Parks Krahwinkel of Owensboro; 
a grandson; a sister, Margaret Moore of Beaver Dam; a niece; a nephew; 
and two great-nieces and a great-nephew.
Services were Tuesday at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford with 
burial in Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam. Expressions of sympathy may

Anna Moline Rowan
Anna Moline Rowan, 83, of Beaver Dam, died Monday, November 3, 2003, at 
Ohio County Hospital.
The Ohio County native worked at General Electric in Owensboro and was 
a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her 
husband, Joseph C. Rowan in 2001.
Survivors include one daughter, Shannon Teague of Clarkson, Kentucky; 
three sons, Cullen Rowan of Beaver Dam, Phillip Rowan of Jonesboro, 
Arkansas and Donald Rowan of Little Rock, Arkansas; four brothers, John 
Smith of Owensboro, James Smith, Jr. of Hartford, Darrell Smith of 
Glasgow and Dwight Smith of Hartford; three sisters, Dorothy Foster of 
Hartford, Bonnie Moseley of Fordsville and Wanda Smith of Hartford; 14 
grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five 
great-great-grandchildren.
Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Duke-Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in 
Hartford. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation 
will be from 4 - 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until funeral time 
Friday at the funeral home.

Bobby Lee Puckett
Bobby Lee Puckett, 57, of Hartford, died Monday, November 3, 2003, at 
home.The Whitesville native was employed by Titan Fabricators in Owensboro 
as a welding inspector and was formerly employed by Midwestern Gas in 
Hartford. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War and a 
member of Hartford First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Debra "Debi" Lamb Puckett; a son, Kyle 
Brandon Puckett of Hartford; a daughter, Nicole Leigh Puckett of 
Hartford; a grandson; and two brothers, Fred Puckett of Hartford and 
Kenny Puckett of Owensboro.
Services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home. Burial 
will be in Oakwood Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be 
from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until time of services Friday 
at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of

Walker Sweeney
Walker Sweeney, 80, of Owensboro, died Tuesday, November 4, 2003, at 
his home.
The Daviess County native was a retired carpenter and member of Lewis 
Lane Baptist Church. He helped build Apollo Heights Baptist Church, 
where he had served as chairman of the building committee and was in 
charge of the nursery. A veteran of the U.S. Army Signal Corps during 
World War II, he was in five major battles. His wife, Kathryn Sweeney, 
preceded him in death in 1998.
Survivors include a son, Charles Sweeney of Owensboro; four daughters, 
Ruth Horton of Reynolds Station, Charlene Leonard and Zoe Fulkerson of 
Owensboro and Betty Burcham of Thruston; three brothers, Herman Sweeney 
of Louisville and John Sweeney and Albert Sweeney, both of Owensboro; a 
sister, Dorothy Willyard of Owensboro; 11 grandchildren; and seven 
great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home where 
visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 8:30 a.m. 
Friday. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy 
may take the form of contributions to the memorial funds of Lewis Lane 
Baptist Church and First Freewill Baptist Church.
