Tarheels win Ohio County Junior League title

OC Country Club Invitational golf tournament this week

The annual Ohio County Country Club Invitational Golf Tournament will be played this Saturday and Sunday, July 28-29, at the OCCC course north of Hartford. The OCCC Invitational is one of the “oldest continuously-running tournaments in the state, and certainly in this area of the state,” according to an OCCC spokesman. The two-day, 36-hole tournament will open with an 18-hole round on Saturday, with scores determining players in championship and lower “flights” for final round play on Sunday. The winner of the championship flight receives a trophy along with other prizes, while the top four players in each flight also take home awards. Area businesses also sponsor prizes for “closest to the pin” tee shots and “longest drives”.

Oliver signs to play at Brescia

Another Ohio County High standout has signed to play collegiate baseball next season for Coach Jeff Falkner’s Brescia Bearcats. Jeff Oliver, a member of the 2006 Ohio County Eagles, joins former OCHS teammates Adam Daugherty and Robert Givens on Falkner’s 2008 Bearcat squad.

52 report for OC football workouts

The Ohio County football Eagles reported to a week-long camp this Monday to begin intensive preparations for their 2007 season-opener August 24 hosting Hancock County. Coach Dan Crume and his staff welcomed in 52 varsity prospects–including several new faces–at Monday’s afternoon workout at the OCHS football facility. The ‘07 Eagles will be trying to erase memories of last year’s 2-8 mark which broke a string of consecutive appearances in the 4A state postseason playoffs.
