Amos Wins Junior Golf Title; Unified Team Returns to State as Lady Eagles Fall in Regional

Ohio County Unified Track Team Returns to State Championships

The Ohio County Unified Track Team made its second consecutive appearance at the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Unified State Championships on May 23 at the University of Kentucky Track & Field Complex in Lexington.

Ohio County competitors posted strong performances against teams from across the state. In the Mixed Shot Put, Zoey Doolin and Diego Rivera placed eighth with a throw of 51-6.5, while Blane Morphew and Aiden Bullock finished 11th at 50-6.

In the Mixed Long Jump, Doolin and Ryan Durham placed 11th, Emma Fisher and Tate Abney were 15th, and Isabella Filback and Eli Schrader finished 16th.

Ohio County fielded two teams in the Mixed 2x50 Meter Relay, placing 12th and 16th. The Eagles’ top finish came in the Mixed 4x100 Meter Shuttle Relay, where Tate Abney, Alexandra Miller, Eli Schrader and Blane Morphew placed sixth in a time of 1:09.52.

The team is coached by Kim Kennedy.

Amos Captures Junior Golf Championship

Beaver Dam eighth-grader Molly Amos continued her impressive season by winning the GolfWeek Junior Tour 14-and-under championship during Memorial Day weekend in Lexington.

Amos carded rounds of 80, 75 and 73 to finish at 12-over-par and claim the tournament title at the University Club of Kentucky’s Big Blue Course. She played her final round at just one-over par, recording four birdies.

The championship caps a consistent season for Amos, who finished fifth or better in all winter and spring events and placed second in the tour’s Player of the Year standings.

Holsclaw Introduced as New Eagles Football Coach

Ohio County High School has officially named Brent Holsclaw as its new head football coach.

Holsclaw, a Louisville native, was introduced during a May 22 press conference. He brings decades of coaching experience, including a 15-year tenure as head coach at Kentucky Wesleyan College.

During his time with the Panthers, Holsclaw became the winningest coach in program history and guided Kentucky Wesleyan to a 7-4 season in 2014. Before entering the college coaching ranks, he began his career at Fairdale High School and later served at Mercyhurst University and Lake Forest College.

As a player, Holsclaw quarterbacked Louisville Trinity to a state championship in 1989 and later set multiple passing records at Kentucky Wesleyan.

Among the players he coached in college was current Owensboro High School coach DeMarcus Ganaway, who led the Red Devils to a state championship in 2025.

Lady Eagles Fall in Extra Innings at Regional Tournament

Ohio County’s season came to a heartbreaking end May 25 with a 4-3 extra-inning loss to Hancock County in the opening round of the 3rd Region Softball Tournament at Daviess County High School.

Making their ninth consecutive regional appearance, the Lady Eagles built a 3-0 lead behind RBI efforts from Harmony Barrett and Madyson Crowe, whose solo home run highlighted the offense.

Hancock County rallied with two runs in the fifth inning and tied the game in the seventh after drawing a bases-loaded walk. The Lady Hornets completed the comeback in the eighth when Ava Riggs delivered a walk-off double with two outs.

Ohio County finished the season 16-14.

Senior Talynn Clark earned All-Tournament Team honors.

Leading hitters for Ohio County included Crowe, Barrett and Clark. Crowe homered and drove in a run, while Barrett added an RBI single. Clark recorded a double and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
