LOUISVILLE — Byron Brown, 71, passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 28, 2022. He graduated from Ohio County High School in 1969, where he participated in the marching band. He attended the University of Kentucky, which cemented his lifelong following of the Kentucky Wildcats. (Go Cats!) He worked at Peabody Coal (like his father) for a time before he went into business for himself as a real estate agent, auctioneer and as an insurance agent. He served on the board of directors at Tamarlane Industries and helped to develop the annual fundraiser to benefit the same, ‘Taste of Ohio County,’ which continues to provide support to serve the vocational needs of individuals who are mentally or physically challenged. His grandchildren knew him as Papaw and brought him lots of joy in the last 18 years of his life.
He will be missed and is survived by his spirited daughters, Cody Cobb (John Bidwell) and Cassie Tanzey (the late Joe Tanzey); his favorite ex-wife, Michele Landberg; his grandchildren, Memphis Brown (18) and Maya Bidwell (1); his brother, Brent Brown, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; the indominable (Aunt) Ina Bratcher, her son Kenny Bratcher, and family, of Owensboro; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William “Hill” and Thelma Brown, of Beaver Dam; and beloved dogs, Duke, Spike, Mega, BlackJack, Tucker and Mac.
A Celebration of Life dessert reception will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11, from 1 to 4 in the afternoon at The Foodie Call Café, located at 115 West Center Street in Hartford. Friends and family are invited to attend and share their memories of Byron.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Kentucky Human Society or charity of your choice are appreciated.
