DURHAM, N.C. — James S. “Jim” Glenn III, 85, of Durham, N.C., passed away at home on Feb. 2, 2021. He was born in Owensboro on June 1, 1935, to the late James S. Glenn Jr. and Grace Keith. In his earlier years he worked for the Florida East Coast Railroads with his father, and worked the remainder of his career with the L&N/ CSX Railroads. He was also an assistant manager in the real estate department. Jim served in the U.S. Army from April of 1958 to April of 1960. He also served on the Hartford Water Commission. He was a previous member of Hartford Christian and North Side Christian in Durham.
Jim loved being in the outdoors, hunting and fishing. His true enjoyment came from spending time with his family especially during their camping trips.
Aside from his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Keith Glenn.
Jim is survived by his wife, Jerry Nell Poole Glenn; his children, James S. “Jay” Glenn IV, of Greenville, S.C., Joseph K. Glenn, of Bowling Green, and William Eric Glenn, of Durham; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 10, in the Chapel of Miller Schapmire Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
