Joan Christine Norrington Mentch passed from this life on Sept. 17, 2020, and Ronald Allan Mentch passed from this life on March 8, 2017. Joan and Ron were married for 49 years and lived in Tucson, Ariz., at the time of their passing. A graveside burial to place their ashes into eternal rest will be held at noon, Aug. 7, at Oakwood Cemetery, Hartford.
Joan was a member of the Highland Street Church of Christ. She held many jobs during her lifetime, but one most-
Ron was of the Catholic faith, a United States Air Force Vietnam veteran, worked for the Teamsters in the Chicago area before moving to Tucson, and lastly employed by Muscular Dystrophy Association, where he was a close friend of Jerry Lewis. Always when in Tucson, Jerry would make sure Ron would be there to greet him. The two of them were co-workers during the many telethons for MDA. Ron’s family, co-workers and friends loved, understood and respected this “Good Mensch.”
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Allan Mentch, on March 8, 2017; father, Robert Thomas Allan, Woodrow Wilson Norrington (Irene); brother-in-law, Robert Coleman Magan; in-laws, Harry and Pearl Mentch; sister-in-law, Sandy Mueller; nephew, Richard Mueller Jr.; grandparents, Amelia and Hollis Norrington, William Lenace and Mary Martin, Hannah Greer “Nancy” and Gabriel Allen; and beloved family of aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
Ron’s beloved wife, Joan Christine Norrington Mentch, passed Sept. 17, 2020. Preceding Ron in death were his father, Harry Mentch; mother, Pearl Mentch; father-in-law, Robert Allan; brother-in-law, Robert Coleman Magan; Mentch, Martin and Allan grandparents; sister, Sandy Mueller, in 2019; nephew, Richard Mueller Jr. in 2020; beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
Those left behind to cherish Joan and Ron’s memories are Joan’s mother, Mary Christine Martin Allan; sisters, Janet Magan, Jackie Harvey (Michael), Caroline Lindner (Don) and Lori Sancomb (Bill Stanford); brother, Gerald Norrington (Shirley); brother-in-law, Richard Mueller; aunts, Helen Martin, Pearl Crowley and Phyllis Talaczynski; uncles, Richard “R.K.” Martin and Ronald Allan (Mary Kay); nephews, Thomas Magan (Michelle), Justin Harvey, Harrison Lindner and Zachary Norrington; nieces, Amanda Harner (Will), Caitlin Lindner, Kelli and Christina Sancomb, Suzy Borsch (Rob) and JoAnne Olson (Christopher); great-nephews, Tyler Magan, Jeff and Ryan Mueller, Tyler and Nathan Borsch, Alec and Brandon Olson; great-nieces, Madison Magan, Paisley, Anabel and Savannah Harner, Rachel Mueller, Alyssa and Jordyn Borsch and Claire Olson; and many cousins.
Joan and Ron had no children of their own, so nephews, nieces, cousins and friends’ children were like their own. Needless to say, they had several feisty bow-wows over the years. A Tucson neighbor of 34 years, Phyllis Duree, said two weeks ago, “As a couple Joan and Ron believed how precious it was to love, share and communicate that loce with sincerity before we depart this life.” And a special lady and neighbor, Nova Sipe, said, “Both of them were so good to all of us. They were really true friends. Joan and Ron left no regrets behind. May they rest in peace.”
