Those looking for something to do this weekend, have several choices in Ohio County. Among those events are two fundraisers for car enthusiasts or those looking for family fun locally.

The annual Puzzle Pieces Charity Cruise-In will be held in Beaver Dam Friday night beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Ohio County High School.

The event, in its eighth year, “keeps getting bigger and better every year,” according to Puzzle Pieces Executive Director Amanda Owen.

The event, canceled due to COVID-19 concerns last year, benefits Puzzle Pieces an organization based in Owensboro dedicated to helping individuals eight years old and up with intellectual disabilities. Organizers say that this organization needs support more now than ever after enduring 2020.

There is no judging or registration fee for the event as it is donation only.

Owen said participants are invited to bring out “anything that rolls” to be a part of the cruise-in.

Goody bags will be given to the first 200 cars to register. Along with the cruise-in there will be door prizes and auction items provided by numerous companies within the area.

Music will be provided by Brent Embry and Adam Scott and concessions, kids games and a silent/live auction will be held.

Cruise-Ins in the past, which typically average 150 cars, have raised well over $10,000 each year for the charity.

Owen said every dollar of the money brought in that night will go to the organization.

“That is what makes it so great is that the sponsors provide the funds for everything it takes to run the event,” Owen said. “This event just shows what a great community Ohio County is.”

In case of rain, the event will be held the following Friday night at the same location.

In its ninth year, Hartford Fire Department’s Fundraiser Hoses and Hot Rods will be held in downtown Hartford from 9 a.m.

until 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Coming back after a year off because of COVID-19 concerns, organizers are looking forward to a big turnout.

“We’ve got a lot of things coming again this year and a lot of new things,” said HFD’s David Henderson, an event organizer. “We are trying to make it a lot bigger than it has been in the past.”

Henderson said there are a lot of things happening for the kids at the event, including face painting and balloon animals and magic tricks by Dr. Popper the Clown. Children are also invited to bring their Power Wheels vehicles to enter and display in the car show just like regular cars.

Young and old can take rides in the Crewzin Monster truck for the cost of a donation. Adam Scott will be performing for the crowd at noon.

There will be over 40 vendors of all types including five food vendors, which is a little bigger than in the past, Henderson said.

“I think a lot of people are just ready to get out and are tired of being cooped up,” he said. “There will be lots of cars and a lot of stuff for the family and the kids. It’s going to be a big show in downtown Hartford and it should be a good time.

All of the proceeds go to the fire department for equipment purchases and needs.

In case of rain, the event will be held on July 24.
