BEAVER DAM — Samuel “Kurt” Ford passed away Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022, at the Heartford House in Owensboro. Kurt was an Air Force veteran and a resident at Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson. The Veterans Center had been his home for the last five years.

Kurt was born June 14, 1945, to Sam and Virginia Barnard Ford, and graduated from Centertown High School. He had lifelong friendships that began in the first grade. He graduated with honors from Western Kentucky University, was employed by Peabody Coal Co. for 15 years and retired from J.M. Smucker Co. in Lexington. During his retirement he was a substitute teacher for the Ohio County School System. Teaching came late in life, but was his favorite.

Kurt had many loves — music, history, reading, taking drives in the country. He had the “gift of gab” and never met a stranger. Kurt loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a member of Cedar Grove Church and played harmonica in the church band.

Kurt was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Virginia Ford; a niece, Jodi Hazelwood Morphew; and a great-nephew, Tyler Glen Wilson.

Kurt is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Brenda Motherhead Ford; his son, Samuel “Mark” Ford, of Lexington; his granddaughter, Samantha (Michael) Sizemore, of Frankfort; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Zander, Jolee, Amylia, Jacob and Leeanna, all of Frankfort; his sister, Karen (David) Wilson, of Pleasanton, Texas; sister-in-law, Judy (Joey) Hazelwood, of Hartford; brother-in-law, Steve (Judy) Motherhead, of Louisville; and nephews, Kevin (Mary) Wilson, Sam (Barbara) Wilson and Drew and Matt Hazelwood. He also has a brother by another mother, Larry (Robin) Lewis, of Louisville.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 25,  at Cedar Grove Church, 8086 Cedar Grove Road, Olaton, KY 42361. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. David Embry and Larry Embry will be officiating. Bevil Bros. Funeral in Beaver Dam is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Samaritans Purse or Habitat for Humanity.
