CENTERTOWN — Samuel Lee “Sammy” Keown Jr., 73, of Centertown, passed away on Friday, Jan. 8, 2021, at Ohio County Healthcare. He was born on Jan. 9, 1947, in Central City, Ky., to Samuel Lee Keown Sr. and the late Jessie Lois Jones Parkhurst. Sammy was a member of New Assembly Church, was employed at Apex Tool and Die for 35 years, and was a United States Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and music, and was a man of many talents. He could fix anything. Sammy loved his family and over the last ten years he was committed to serving his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Jessie and Jack Parkhurst.
He leaves behind to cherish many memories, his beloved wife of 10 years, Lori Leach Keown, of Centertown; his father and stepmother, Samuel Lee and Martha Keown Sr., of Centertown; one son, Samuel Lee Keown III; two daughters, Samantha and Shannon; one sister, Patty (Kenny) Calvert, of Evansville, Ind.; two brothers, Dannie Joe (Mayeth) Keown, of Wadesville, Ind., and Tony (Charla) Parkhurst, of Corpus Christi, Texas; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 14, at New Assembly Church, 425 KY-1543, Hartford, KY 42347, with Rev. Lealin Geary officiating. Burial will follow in Echols Cemetery in Echols, with full military honors provided by the Ohio County Honor Guard. Friends may visit with the family from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday at New Assembly Church and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the church. Due to health and public safety mandates, capacity will be limited to 50 percent and facial coverings will be required.
